Healthy Aging

The aim for all of us is to not to just live longer, we want to live better and
longer. Too often, as Doctor, I see patients in their later years live a reduced quality of life that needn’t have been so. Part of this puzzle is by keeping our muscle mass through later years by staving off a process called Sarcopenia and also reducing the likelihood of falls in our older years. The result of a fall fracturing your hip or femur once you hit about the age of sixty-five is devastating.

Up to one-third of people over sixty-five who fracture their hip will die within a year. Even if a person does not die from the injury, the setback can be a marked decrease of mobility. If we cannot move then I would
argue that this is terrible loss in quality of life as movement is one of the things that makes life worth living.
